The Hard-Krome FAQ's
| Q: |
I am interested in ordering a set of Hard-Krome pipes. Is there anything I should order with these pipes? |
| A: |
There are two things we recommend along with a set of Hard-Krome pipes. The first thing we recommend is to have the bikes jetting recalibrated. The other thing we recommend with a complete set of Hard-Krome pipes is to replace the crush gaskets. These gaskets are a 1-time gasket similar to a spark plug washer. They insure that the cylinder head/ pipe junction has an airtight seal. |
| Q: |
I am interested in ordering a full set of Hard-Krome pipes. Do I need to re-jet my motorcycle in accordance? |
| A: |
If your bike is carbureted we recommend the Dynojet Stage jet kit for our pipe applications. The bike could run lean otherwise and you could experience a pop on deceleration. The jet kit can be purchased through your local dealer.
If your bike has Fuel Injected, we recommend the Dynojet PowerCommander. The PowerCommander will alter your air/fuel mixture. Your stock F.I. can compensate only a small spectrum, not enough for an aftermarket exhaust. The Power Commander can alter that stock map and can be re-programmed for modifications installed at a later time.

| Q: |
My pipes are great but I would like the option of being able to tone the sound down a little bit. Is there anything you offer for my pipes? |
| A: |
Excellent question. Our R&D department is hard at work trying to develop a baffle that will tone down our pipes while still maintaining a high level of performance associated with our Hard-Krome pipes. This process is taking a little longer than we had previously thought. We will update the website as soon as more information is available. Thank you for being patient. |
| Q: |
The 2.5” American Classic Straights and the Strippers look very similar. Can you tell me the difference between the two? |
| A: |
The Strippers do not have to use end caps. The Strippers and the 2.5" American Classic Straights are the same exact pipe-the only difference is that the American Classic Straights come with Straight Cut end caps and are a few dollars more. Both will feature welded-in baffles and the 1-year guarantee against bluing. All three end caps will fit both the 2.5” American Classic Straights and the Strippers |
| Q: |
I have installed a complete set of Hard-Krome pipes to my motorcycle. On deceleration the bike pops, how can I fix this? |
| A: |
A pop is usually in indication of one of two instances. The most common is that the bike has not been jetted, or was jetted incorrectly. The other instance is a crush gasket at the head. This is one part we do not supply, it is an OEM part. This crush gasket is a one-time crush, similar to a spark plug seal. We recommend replacing this gasket when installing new pipes. There is a chance an air leak at the head/ exhaust junction can lead to the popping. The crush gasket is an OEM part and available through your local dealer. We do not offer this part. |

| Q: |
I know your pipes have a 1-year guarantee against bluing. Can you tell me if they are also warranted as well? |
| A: |
The Hard-Krome pipes carry a 90-day warranty against manufacturer defects and a 1-year guarantee against bluing. If your pipes are less than 90 days, the pipes will need to be returned to the retail establishment they were purchased from. Our distributor carries a 90-day warranty for us. Or you can contact our customer service at 1(800) 854-9134. |
| Q: |
I have seen your new 2-into-1 Xccelerator/ Xccelerator II pipes in your advertisements but I cannot find them on your website. Can you give me some more information? |
| A: |
The original 2-into-1 Xccelerator has been discontinued. The new Xccelerator II is a revised version that improves on the original design. Visually, the pipe will look almost identical. The New Xccelerator II will feature a removable end cap that is CNC machined and now removable. However, this whole process has taken much longer than we have previously anticipated. We will update the website as soon as more information is available. Thank you for being patient. |
| Q: |
I am trying to find out if the baffles in my pipes are removable. |
| A: |
There are a few pipes that are welded into the pipes. They are the 2.5” American Classic Straights, the Strippers, the 2.75” Tapered Straights, the 3” Dual Sideburners, the 2-into-1 Sideburner and the 2-into-1 Xccelerator. These baffles are fixed and the sound output cannot be adjusted. All of our other Hard-Krome pipes do feature removable baffles. A few things to remember if you decide to run your Hard-Krome pipes without baffles- By removing baffles you have significantly decreased the necessary back-pressure for your valves. Another thing to remember if you decide to leave your baffles out- your pipe is subject to discoloring where the inner pipe ends. The hot exhaust could discolor the outer pipe. This is NOT covered in our 1-year guarantee against bluing. We recommend using our Straight Through baffle as a replacement.
